Professor Keith J. Morgan, the former Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University, UK and University of Newcastle, Australia, and visiting Professor of the Research Institute for Higher Education (RIHE), Hiroshima University (May 1996 - March 1997, March-June 1999, September-October 2007, January-March 2010) passed away in UK on 6th May, 2012.

As former university administrator, Professor Morgan made numerous publications on Japan's higher education from the perspective of economics in particular. Since the late 1990s, he made valuable recommendations on Japan's higher education reforms at both national and institutional levels while attending various international conferences and academic seminars in Japan. He was also responsible for editing almost all the RIHE English publications over the late 1990s to 2010, including RIHE International Publication Series, RIHE International Conference Reports, Higher Education Research in Japan, and Higher Education Forum, etc. He made tremendous contributions to helping the RIHE to establish its international reputation especially in research activities.

We would like to offer our sincerest condolences on the death of Professor Morgan.
